Who We Are & Where We're Going

Here's a quick look at who we are, what we do, how we do it, and what we strive to bring to Marion County, its residents, and its visitors.

Mission

The Marion County Heritage Center was founded to showcase the rich history and diverse heritage of Marion County, from its earliest days to the present. Our mission is to serve as a vibrant cultural hub that connects local citizens with their roots, while also welcoming visitors from around the world to explore and appreciate the unique stories that have shaped our community. We strive to be a dynamic destination that fosters understanding, preserves our shared history, and celebrates the diverse traditions that make Marion County a true cultural mosaic.

Vision

The Marion County Heritage Center and Historical Society Museum will be the crown jewel of downtown Lebanon and the authority on Marion County history. The center, which will encompass all three floors of the former County Courthouse building, will be vibrant and vital, with permanent and rotating exhibits, a growing inventory of artistic and historic collections, and engaging programs that attract local, regional and tourist audiences.

Three-Five Year Vision

Strengthen Financial Security –

An improved financial position will be achieved by creating and implementing a plan and programs that serve to expand and diversify income sources.

Increase Engagement of People –

Active members and volunteers will play a greater role in expanding and stabilizing collections, increasing fundraising events, identifying new ideas and concepts, engaging a broad audience, and filling key volunteer and board roles.

Expand Programs and Optimize Collections – Innovative concepts will join permanent exhibits to make the Heritage Center a vital part of the heart of Kentucky, engaging youth, families and history buffs with well-organized collections that honor the history and history-makers of Marion Co. and inspire the telling and re-telling of our most dear and exciting stories.

Build Public Awareness –

Increased promotion through traditional and social media communications will build visibility of membership, programs, financial support, and the historical society’s resources.
