Educational Programming

At the Marion County Heritage Center, we offer engaging and informative programs designed for school groups and visitors. These programs can also be delivered off-site to classrooms or community spaces. Each program includes a presentation with visuals and hands-on activities to engage participants in learning about the rich history of Marion County.

Our Programs:

Geological History of Marion County

  • Discover the fascinating geological history of Marion County, from an ancient lake to local rock formations and fossils. This program explores the region’s geological past, with an interactive fossil identification activity. This program pairs nicely with the Indigenous Peoples program, as the first Native American settlers likely lived in the area during the existence of this massive lake and hunted megafauna nearby.

Indigenous Peoples of Marion County

  • Learn about the early Native American communities that lived in Marion County. This program highlights the arrival of Paleoindian settlers, their domesticated plants, hunted animals, and local pioneer stories. It includes an interactive word search.

Lebanon’s Civil War History

  • Explore the timeline of Civil War events that took place in Lebanon, highlighting key local figures, landmarks, and the three battles of Lebanon. This program examines what life was like for residents during the war and how the conflict shaped the community. Activities include a crossword puzzle.

Program Flexibility:

Our programs can be delivered as individual sessions or combined for a more in-depth experience. Whether you’re a school group, a local organization, or a visitor to the area, we tailor each presentation to meet the needs and interests of the audience.
